State of the Industry:

Winter is typically a cold and quiet time for the music industry,  but things are starting to heat up, both outside and for music fans everywhere. Anticipated album releases and just around the corner, and the big spring/summer events are soon to follow! Of course, here at KRUX we are tirelessly working on our own festival: KRUXfest, which goes on from March 6th to March 9th!

New & Noteworthy:

Sun Kil Moon – Benji:

Frontman Mark Kozelek has been making music under the name Sun KIl Moon for over a decade now, and 10 years can be extremely taxing on successful musicians. A lot of times, after such a long period, bands start to lose some luster, and their best music can be behind them. However Moon’s new album “Benji” might just be their best. Emotional, sincere, and hauntingly beautiful, this album features Sun Kil Moon at their most honest and resonant. Anyone looking for a beautiful and poetic journey should give it a listen.

KRUXfest 2014:

Our annual musical festival, KRUXfest, is a 4 day event this year. The schedule is as follows:

March 6th: DJ night at Hurricane Alley

March 7th: Acoustic night at M5

March 8th: Local festival at the Horseshoe (On Campus)

March 9th: Headlining event featuring Painted Palms & Gap Dream at the Horseshoe (On Campus)

Festival – South by Southwest (SXSW)  March 11-16:

Austin’s South By Southwest festival is one of the premiere events for fans of music, film, and art in general. Lasting almost a week, the festival will feature many popular, and up-and-coming artists. Notable artists are: St. Vincent, EMA, Talib Kweli and more!

Album – St. Vincent – Self Titled (Feb. 24th):

After 2011’s  “Strange Mercy”, the expectations for St Vincent’s (stage name for musician Annie Clark) new album have been high. That album showed her develop a deeper, and darker sound, which  seems to be the continuing trend for this new album. Details from this album have been kept under wraps, but with the release next week, we will soon see how St. Vincent has continued her sound.

Album – Real Estate – Atlas (March 4th):

Real Estate’s 2011 album Days was easily one of the best of the year. Relaxing, reaming indie rock isn’t exactly rare, but they did it with a sincerity and mastery that set them above the rest. Earlier this year, Real Estate has put out two singles for their upcoming album, and excitement couldn’t be higher. We will see soon if they can continue the quality for the full length album.
